HECO Telephone Pole Installations - July 2023

Reliable service and the safety of Hawaiian Electric’s customers and employees are our highest priorities. This requires regular work on our infrastructure, including installing and replacing utility poles as needed. The new poles are often taller and wider than the existing poles in order to allow for adequate spacing between the power lines and to comply with the 2002 National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and Hawaiian Electric’s current construction and maintenance standards.

As part of a requirement from the Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission (PUC), residential customers who live near an electrical utility pole that is being replaced or installed will be notified and provided with the option to request a waiver/exemption of the applied standards. Instructions on how to request a waiver/exemption will be included in the notification.

Additionally, the area neighborhood boards are also to be notified of these activities.

Within several weeks, a pole will be replaced or installed at the following location in your district:

  • 1814 Paula Drive

  • 4600 Sierra Drive

  • 1933 Iwi Way

If you have any questions, please contact me at (808) 543-4000 or via email at community@hawaiianelectric.com.

Trees for Kaimuki

is a community led project to increase the urban canopy in Kaimuki. We aim to mobilize the community in partnership with the City to create tree-lined streets, parks with increased tree canopy, and a vibrant business district that celebrates trees and plants. How can I get involved? Please follow us on Facebook and sign up for our email newsletter to stay updated! We are working out details with the city and will soon be hosting informational community meetings and asking residents to care for new street trees!
